Fighter Movie 2024 Review

In the last two years, many films have taken over people’s hearts and the box office with the support of religion or nationalism.

Kashmir Files, Kerala Story, Gadar 2, for example.

And sometimes, the creators become so lazy that they leave the acting, VFX, directions, everything to God’s will and people’s emotions. And hope that it works.

Result is Adipurush, Ram Setu, Tejas, The Vaccine War.

People reject them. People don’t even step into a movie hall in the name of God.

So what will you do if you are given 250 crores to make a mainstream movie?

With A-listers like Hrithik Roshan and Deepika. With Pakistan, Mujahideen, Pulwama Blast, Balakot, Politics, Nationalism and Romance.

It’s not easy to make a 3-hour commercial success movie with all these things.

What would be the clearest formula? Blame Pakistan. They are the ultimate villain. You can play Us vs Them and make 100 crores.

The third rate, no story, made at a budget of 60 crores, Gadar 2 earned 500 crores plus.

What should a film make when it was produced on a budget of 250 crores?

Honestly, my expectations were low when I went to watch Fighter.

I thought it would be very simple… Pulwama attack followed by the exploitation of emotion.

Then Balakot strike – the same Uri formula – action and reaction, making everyone happy.

Director Siddharth Anand has a hat trick with Fighter after War and Pathaan.

The film could have worked on religion and nationalism… but Anand did work hard.

Film Fighter has flaws but overall it’s a slick action movie. It works visually, in parts emotionally.

But first, 7 good points about Fighter.

  1. Where did the 600 crore money go in Adipurush movie? Inquiry should be done.Fighter has spent 250 crores. It looks realistic even in 2D.Dogfighting sequences, VFX sets, costumes look good. Not like Kangana’s Tejas. She made a video game. It made fun of the Indian Air Force.Fighter is very real. In a realistic world scenario. The main reason is its realistic look. The special effects of this movie are managed by DNEG.It’s the same company that has produced special effects for James Bond and Dune. This is world-class VFX. And in Bollywood movies, it’s by far the best VFX that you could see.
  2. This movie was made with the help of the Indian Air Force. And it’s visible. The detailing of the Air Force, from dress to procedure to fighter aircraft, has been given a lot of attention. And it is possible that this movie will have a bigger impact than just Box Office numbers.Who knows, maybe after watching this movie, youngsters will start giving more applications to the Air Force. And they will get motivated for that. There is a historical precedent for this. After Top Gun released, in the US Navy, applications for fighter aircraft, fighter pilots, had increased by 500%.It is possible that this movie will not only make money but also benefit the country. The real fighter pilots’ life is not that glamorous. But what is the risk in their life has been shown in the movie.
  3. If the movie was limited to Pulwama and Balakot, then also, it could have earned money. But director Siddharth Anand and producer Viacom 18 took a risk and went ahead.Pulwama and Balakot end before the interval. The story intensifies after the interval. You will get a lot of twists and turns. I won’t tell you the story. But this movie is not based on real-life events – there is fictional part as well.
  4. While some directors and movies have achieved degrees in Us versus Them concept, on the contrary, Siddharth Anand tries to hammer in one thing again and again.Who is our enemy? A community? A Pakistani government? Or the Pakistani Army and ISI, Deep state that provides shelter and training to terrorists. If a Bollywood movie can show this difference, can make people understand, then it will have an impact on their thinking. As a matter of fact, once our Prime Minister Modi also said publicly, that we should talk to the people of Pakistan, should talk to their people directly, who themselves are fed up with this terror state and their army that allows terror.
  5. Dialogues.Okay, this can be a little controversial. Because some dialogues are tacky, cringy.Like, India’s Prime Minister says, it’s time to show who is the father.Let’s hope that no Prime Minister speaks this way. But the dialogues written by Abbas and Hussain Dalal, they know very well, which dialogue the audience will whistle. It’s a mass film, right? It’s a commercial film, right? That’s why Anil Kapoor says, there is only victory or defeat in war. No man of the match.Because Hrithik is very keen to be a man of the match. Hrithik is no less. He says he is a fighter. He says to the terrorists – remember, you are a terrorist. Don’t consider yourself a martyr. And when he is fighting the terrorists, he says, every martyr has pride. Jai Hind. And of course, this one has gone viral. It’s been shown in the trailer. If we wanted to, we would make IOP. India Occupied Pakistan.Anyways, let’s come to number 6. Hrithik looks dashing. In the air force locker room, from his towel to the uniform, he nails the look. For Hrithik fans, this is a no-brainer. They will like the movie.Hrithik fans will see him in a fighter jet, on a bike, dancing in a party.Out and out, this is a Hrithik Roshan movie. To an extent, you won’t feel the same impact of Deepika as you might have felt in Pathaan.
  6. If a movie embraces social cause, tries to change people’s thinking then it’s a plus.Deepika’s role is important because women’s participation in the Air Force is a big topic.Women’s role in frontline combat positions is still limited.Hrithik says that bullet does not know if there is a woman or man on this side.Deepika says that if brave women come forward then men will have to sit at home, so it is quite a progressive stance.
  7. Finally, is this a good or bad point. It depends on whether you have seen the movie, Top Gun, whether you are a fan of Tom Cruise or not.You will see only glimpses of Top Gun in Fighter. Get up, training manuals, flight maneuvers, cobra maneuvers. All the heroes know this maneuver. The enemy does not know it.Now, we don’t have Tom Cruise, but our Hrithik is not bad either as a dashing pilot.Just like Maverick has emotional scars, he is a solo player, not a team player, bosses dislike him.You will find all those things in this film.I am still praising the fighter because we have less expectations from Bollywood movies. But it’s not like everything is fine in this movie. Siddharth Anand exploits the public’s mood.Nationalism, Us vs Them. You will get this in the movie.CRPF bus is going towards Pulwama. Hrithik’s helicopter is going in the opposite direction. They are waving the Tiranga to each other. As if CRPF soldiers have never seen a helicopter that they are waving the Tiranga while getting off the bus.So that emotional sentiment has been openly exploited.Jihadi militants say that Shaheen Bagh is waiting for them as if Shaheen Bagh is a terror area.Next, angry-eyed red-nosed Pakistani pilots are fighting against Hrithik. And before a dogfight between fighter planes… there is a quick chat between the two – is it like having tea?Did you ever imagine Tom Cruise in a dogfight while he is abusing the other… but this is Bollywood.#4 The enemy has F-16. We have Sukhoi. We have Mirage. But we have to explain to the audience. They don’t know the difference. So how to make a difference? Pak jets are painted green. So we will understand that green is equal to Pakistan. These are childish acts. When you are making such a detailed film, then why these childish acts?Number 5. There are cringe dialogues. Hrithik says, when he is going to Pakistan airspace, following the red nose, if you want to go back to base, do so, I will shoot the Pakistani pilot before you.I honestly hope no pilot of our air force talks like this.In the first half, the picture is very tight. That has Pulwama and Balakot. In the second half, the picture goes a little towards Bollywood. A little more drama happens. After that, of course, a climax which is a fictional climax. I won’t spoil it for you.But there are also such points where the villain is saying that he killed his comrade, burnt the flag of India and soldier died in pain. These are new ways of torture.Overall, Fighter is Indian version of Top Gun and well adapted. It’s not an embarrassment. The enemy is not US, Russia or China. The enemy here is Pakistan. So, if you want to watch a high-octane action drama, you will not be disappointed. But if you wanted refined movie making, nuanced acting – you may be disappointed.Because there are some missing emotions. Like Deepika just keeps looking at Hrithik with love. So, you may not get to see the sizzling chemistry like between SRK and Deepika. So, are you going or not? To watch Fighter on Republic Day?Also, write in the comments which other movie we should review on The Deshbhakt.Wishing you a very happy Republic Day.
